1990-1 Highlights: The Capitals signed Dimitri on December
11. He played three games in Baltimore before coming to Washington where he
made an immediate impact. He scored his first NHL goal on December 28 in
Madison Square Garden. Over the second half of the season, Dimitri developed
into a legitimate offensive threat, scoring 13 goals in 40 games. Scored twice
against Buffalo on March 26. Had b multiple assist
games.
Career History: Dimitri played three seasons with Sokol-Kiev of
the Soviet Elite League. In 1989-90 was 4th on his team in goals (14), tied for
2nd in assists (22), and third in points (36). He is seen as one of the most
exciting young players in the Soviet Union, and is the youngest player ever
allowed to leave the let Union. He played for the gold medal winning 1990 Soviet
National Team. He has also won a gold medal with the 1989 Soviet Junior Team,
and a silver medal with the 1988 Junior team. Dimitri scored the tournament
winning goal in a Shootout against the U.S. during the 1990 Goodwill
Games.
Playoff History: Dimitri was a marked man during the 1991
Playoffs. He was covered tightly, and limited to 1-3-4 totals in the eleven
games.
Personal: Dimitri is single and returns to the Soviet Union
over the summer. He was a Junior teammate of Sergei Fedorov and Alexander
Mogilny
